  • Financial Responsibility

    Definition:  To build an annual budget that provides all students (Prek-12th grade) with the courses, resources, and personnel to not only flourish at their grade level, but also to successfully navigate through their preferred pathways as they enter middle school and high school in a safe and welcoming environment while maintaining a fiduciary responsibility to our community.

    Central Square’s Theory of Action:  When we provide the resources necessary to enable high-quality teaching and learning in its many forms and environments, our students will flourish.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    Each member of the school community is responsible for the success of the C² Strategic Plan. 

    Students

    All Central Square Central School District students have a responsibility to: 

    • Contribute to maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment that is conducive to learning and to show respect for other persons and their property. 
    • Be familiar with and abide by all Central Square Central School District policies, rules, and regulations dealing with student conduct. 
    • Attend classes every scheduled day unless legally excused, and to be on time and prepared to learn. 
    • Work to the best of their abilities in all academic and extracurricular pursuits and strive toward their highest level of achievement. 
    • Ask questions when they do not understand. 
    • Seek help in solving problems that might lead to discipline. 
    • Dress appropriately for class and Central Square Central School District functions.
    • Accept responsibility for their actions. 
    • Conduct themselves as representatives of Central Square Central School District when participating in or attending Central Square Central School District sponsored extracurricular events and to hold themselves to the highest standards of conduct.

     

    Teachers

    All district teachers have a responsibility to: 

    • Maintain a climate of mutual respect and dignity for all students, regardless of actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender or sex, which will strengthen student’s self-concept and promote confidence to learn. 
    • Be prepared to teach. 
    • Demonstrate an interest in teaching and concern for student achievement through the use of best practices. 
    • Be aware of the Central Square Central School District policies and rules, and enforce them in a fair and consistent manner. 
      • Maintain confidentiality in conformity with federal and state law.
    •  Communicate to students and parents:
      • Course objectives and requirements 
      • Marking/grading procedures
      • Assignment deadlines 
      • Expectations for students 
      • Classroom discipline plan 
    • Input and document grades according to building guidelines. 
    • Communicate regularly with students, parents and other teachers concerning student growth and achievement. 
    • Participate in school-wide efforts to provide adequate supervision in all school spaces, in conformity with the Taylor Law. 
    • Address issues of harassment or any situation that threatens the emotional or physical health or safety of any student, school employee or any person who is lawfully on school property or at a school function. 
    • Address personal biases that may prevent equal treatment of all students in the school or classroom setting.

     

    Parents

    All parents have a responsibility to: 

    • Recognize that the education of their children is a joint responsibility of the parents and the educational community. 
    • Send their children to educational programs ready to participate and learn. 
    • Ensure their children attend class regularly and on time. 
    • Insist their children be dressed and groomed in a manner consistent with the student dress code. 
    • Help their children understand that in a democratic society appropriate rules are required to maintain a safe and orderly environment. 
    • Know Central Square Central School District rules and help their children understand them. 
    • Convey to their children a supportive attitude toward education and the Central Square Central School District. 
    • Monitor student progress through academic progress reports, report cards, and online grading programs, where applicable. 
    • Build good relationships with teachers, other parents, and their children’s friends. 
    • Help their children deal effectively with peer pressure.  
    • Inform school officials of changes in the home situation that may affect student conduct or performance. 
    • Provide a place for study and ensure homework assignments are completed. 
    • Be familiar with the District’s Code of Conduct, which is posted on the District website.

     

    School Counselors/School Psychologists

    All school counselors/school psychologists have a responsibility to: 

    • Maintain a climate of mutual respect and dignity for all students regardless of actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, and gender of sex. 
    • Assist students in coping with peer pressure and emerging personal, social, academic, and emotional problems. 
    • Collaborate with school-based services. 
    • Participate in parent–teacher, student, counselor, administrator conferences as a way to resolve problems. 
    • Review students’ educational progress and career plans (at appropriate grade levels). 
    • Organize and administer tests as needed. 
    • Provide information to assist students with career planning (at appropriate grade levels). 
    • Encourage students to benefit from the curriculum and extracurricular programs. 
    • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with federal and state law. 
    • Make known to students and families the resources in the community that are available to meet their needs. 
    • Participate in school-wide efforts to provide adequate supervision in all school spaces. 
    • Address issues of harassment or any situation that threatens the emotional or physical health or safety of any student, school employee, or any person who is lawfully on school property or at a school function. 
    • Address personal biases that may prevent equal treatment of all students.

     

    Principal/Administrator

    All administrators have a responsibility to: 

    • Promote a safe, orderly and stimulating school environment, supporting active teaching and learning for all students regardless of actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender or sex. 
    • Support active teaching and learning through the use of best practices and professional development. 
    • Ensure that students and staff have the opportunity to communicate regularly with the principal/administrators and have access to the principal/administrators for redress of grievances. 
    • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with federal and state law. 
    • Facilitate regular communications (including the redress of grievances) among the principal, staff, parents, students, and community. 
    • Evaluate all instructional programs on a regular basis. 
    • Disseminate the Code of Conduct and anti-harassment policies and provide support in the development of the Code of Conduct, when called upon. 
    • Support the development of and student participation in appropriate extracurricular activities. 
    • Be responsible for enforcing the Code of Conduct and ensuring that all cases are resolved promptly, fairly and uniformly. 
    • Participate in school-wide efforts to provide adequate supervision in all school spaces. 
    • Address issues of harassment of any situation that threatens the emotional or physical health or safety of any student, school employee, or any person who is lawfully on school property or at a school function. 
    • Address personal biases that may prevent equal treatment of all students and staff.

     

    Superintendent

    The Superintendent has a responsibility to: 

    • Promote a safe, orderly, and stimulating school environment, supporting active teaching and learning for all students regardless of actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender or sex. 
    • Support active teaching through the use of best practices and by providing time for professional development opportunities. 
    • Review with district administrators the policies of the Board of Education and state and federal laws relating to school operations and management. 
    • Inform the Board of Education about educational trends relating to student discipline. 
    • Work to create instructional programs that minimize problems of misconduct and are sensitive to student and teacher needs. 
    • Work with district administrators to enforce the code of conduct and see that all cases are resolved promptly, fairly, and uniformly. 
    • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with federal and state law. 
    • Participate in school-wide efforts to provide adequate supervision in all school spaces. 
    • Address issues of harassment or any situation that threatens the emotional or physical health or safety of any student, school employee, or any person who is lawfully on school property or at a school function. 
    • Address personal biases that may prevent equal treatment of all students and staff. 

     

    Board of Education   

    The Board of Education has a responsibility to: 

    • Promote a safe, orderly and stimulating school environment, supporting active teaching and learning for all students regardless of actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender of sex. 
    • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with federal and state law. 
    • Collaborate with students, teachers, administrators, and parent organizations, Central Square Central School District safety personnel and other Central Square Central School District personnel to develop a code of conduct that clearly defines expectations for the conduct of students, Central Square Central School District personnel and visitors on Central Square Central School District property and at Central Square Central School District functions. 
    • Adopt and review the Central Square Central School District Code of Conduct to evaluate the code’s effectiveness and the fairness and consistency of its implementation. 
    • Lead by example by conducting board meetings in a professional, respectful and courteous manner. 
    • Address issues of harassment or any situation that threatens the emotional or physical health or safety of any student, school employee, or any person who is lawfully on school property or at a school function. 
    • Address personal biases that may prevent equal treatment of all students and staff.

     

    Other School Personnel

    All other school personnel have a responsibility to: 

    • Maintain a climate of mutual respect and dignity for all students regardless of actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender or sex. 
    • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with federal and state law. 
    • Be familiar with the Code of Conduct which is posted on the district website. 
    • Help children understand the district’s expectations for maintaining a safe, orderly environment. 
    • Participate in school-wide efforts to provide adequate supervision in all school spaces.
