  • Beth Bonin off and running as new Redhawk varsity boys basketball coach

    Beth Bonin coach

The Central Square athletic department is extremely excited to announce that on April 18th, 2024 the Central Square Board of Education accepted the recommendation naming Ms. Beth Bonin the new boys varsity basketball coach, effective immediately, and an elementary physical education teacher effective at the start of the 2024-25 school year.

Ms. Bonin played college basketball at Division II Queens College from 2016-2019 where she was named a team captain, first team All-ECC and second team All MBWA scoring over 1,000 career points. She finished her college career at SUNY Cortland where she was as a fourth-team All-American by the website; and also recognized as the SUNYAC Player of the Year, the East Region Player of the Year, and a WBCA Honorable Mention All-American.

Ms. Bonin started her coaching career at Cicero-North Syracuse as an assistant coach with the boys varsity team for three seasons where she was an instrumental piece in helping turn the Northstars around and into one of the top teams in Section 3 for the past 3 seasons.

From there, Ms. Bonin took over the women's program at Dryden High School where they made a marked improvement from the previous season.  Ms. Bonin has also coached JV softball and modified football at Dryden High school.

Coach Bonin will be rounding out her staff in the upcoming weeks and looks forward to bouncing back from a difficult 2022-23 season and continuing to build the program.

  • Longtime CS boys coach Adams set to lead Redhawk girls varsity hoops

On April 9th, 2024 the Central Square Board of Education accepted the recommendation naming Mr. Jay Adams the new girls varsity basketball coach, effective immediately. The vacancy was created by the decision of longtime coach Kevin Brazell to retire after over 40 years in the role.

As one of the all-time longest tenures of a girls basketball coach in Section 3, Coach Brazell retires with more than 400 wins, one sectional title from this past season as well as helping countless players go on to play in college.

Coach Brazell has also been the driving force behind several charitable causes including a yearly benefit to aid in the fight against cancer. Coach Brazell will continue to coach the modified girls lacrosse team.

Mr. Adams had previously coached the Central Square boys team for the past 20 seasons.

He will be rebuilding a team and program that won its first ever sectional title but also lost four of five starters including 1st team All-CNY and SCAC performer Natalie Bush.
