The Central Square Central School District is more than 200 square miles in size, making it one of the largest school districts by land size alone in the state of New York, and the largest public school district in Oswego County. The Central Square Central School District located in Oswego County, New York, spreads across the three counties of Oswego, Onondaga, and Oneida. The District is primarily based in Oswego County, and includes all of the towns of Hastings, West Monroe, and Constantia, plus parts of the towns of Palermo, Mexico, and Parish. Portions of the Onondaga towns of Cicero and Clay, and the Oneida town of Vienna are also part of the District. The Villages of Central Square and Cleveland, plus the hamlets of Brewerton, Bernhard’s Bay, and Mallory are within the District.

In 2017, the District closed the stand-alone district office building located at 642 South Main Street in the Village of Central Square, which was a financial savings to the District.  The majority of the district offices are now located within Paul V. Moore High School and the Food Services Department is housed at Central Square Middle School. Having these district offices located within a school building has provided an opportunity for our District-level administrators to be in greater contact with students and staff, thus strengthening the school community and illustrating the District’s motto, “As one we rise, together we soar.”

There are four elementary schools that are all comprised of Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade students: (Brewerton Elementary located in Brewerton, NY, A.A. Cole Elementary located in Constantia, NY, Hastings-Mallory Elementary located in Hastings, NY, and Millard Hawk Elementary located in the Village of Central Square). The Central Square Middle School is comprised of sixth through eighth grade students and is located in Central Square, NY, and Paul V. Moore High School is located in the Village of Central Square.

The District has approximately 3600 students enrolled and employs over 700 full-time staff members. The Superintendent of Schools is Mr. Thomas J. Colabufo, and the Board of Education President is Steven Patch. Every student in the District has access to an electronic device to assist in their learning which is one of many ways “we are empowering students to excel as citizens in a changing world,” which is our daily mission for all students.

The District provides multiple career pathways for all students, so if they select the traditional college/university pathway, the military pathway, or straight into the workforce pathway, students have an array of courses and programs to help them reach their preferred goal. For the college/university pathway, Paul V. Moore High School has several dual college credit courses where students not only receive credits towards gaining their high school diploma, they simultaneously receive college credit at no cost to their families.  Students have the ability to actually receive an associate’s degree when they graduate from high school, which is a significant savings for them because those credits go with them to college. Our SUPA (Syracuse University) courses, Cayuga Community College, and Onondaga Community College courses are taught at our high school by Central Square teachers. This exposes students to the rigor of college level courses but at no cost to families. For students planning to directly enter the workforce after graduating high school, many of them attend BOCES career and technical education (CTE) programs where they gain hands on experience and even receive certifications in their chosen field of work.  At Central Square, we do not believe that the college pathway has to be for all students and we encourage those students that are passionate about working in the skilled trades to select a CTE program for their junior and senior years of high school. There have been several companies located locally in Oswego County and Onondaga County that are in need of skilled workers and the compensation is extremely competitive, now more than ever before.  With Micron coming to Clay, NY, which is right very close to our District, technicians and other skilled workers with be in great demand.  Our District also has a long history of military service, and the tradition continues year after year with several graduates that enlist into a military branch, attend an ROTC program, or get accepted into prestigious military academies.

We believe that all students need to feel connected to their school community, so we provide numerous clubs, after school activities, and a huge assortment of extra-curricular activities including amazing athletic and fine arts programs.  We recently added Esports with the creation of the Esports gaming center at our High School that has already produced several Esports championship honors that our Esports team have achieved. Our DECA business club is nationally recognized and attracts our best and brightest students year after year as they gain valuable, marketable skills.
