Information for New Students

We would like to welcome you and your children to the Central Square Central School District. If you are new to the school district, or if you have children who did not attend our schools last year, contact the elementary school your child will attend and arrange to complete registration forms. For middle school students, grades 6 through 8, registration is at the middle school guidance office, on the east side of U.S. Route 11, one mile south of the Central Square village. For high school students, grades 9 through 12, registration is at the high school guidance office, on the south side of Country Route 12 (Caughdenoy Road), one quarter mile west of Central Square village. The hours for registration at the middle school and high school are 7:40 AM to 3:00 PM. For all grades, please bring a birth certificate or baptism certificate, an official immunization record, and official custody or guardianship papers, if applicable.

Pupils with Disabilities

Those students identified by the Committee on Special Education as pupils with disabilities have the opportunity to participate in school district programs, including extra-curricular programs and activities. Contact the Student Services Office at 668-4324 for details regarding this process.

School Attendance

New York State Educational Law requires that every student between the ages of 6 and 16 be enrolled in a public, private or parochial school, or an approved home instruction program. The Central Square Central School District believes that academic achievement depends on regular attendance. We urge parents to make school attendance a top priority for their children.

When a child misses school, the parent must send an excuse with the child upon his/her return and must state the reason for the absence. If an excuse is not received, it will be marked as an illegal absence.

It is unlawful to be absent from school for: hair appointments, baby-sitting, shopping, hunting, and vacations. The only legal absences are for doctor appointments, dentist appointments, illnesses, and funerals for relatives. We work to eliminate illegal absences and we appreciate parental assistance in this task. Parents will be notified of any attendance problems. In the rare incidence where the situation cannot be resolved, Family Court will be notified.

Central Square Central School District has a procedure in place to notify parents if their elementary school child is absent. If you would like to have the school notify you whenever your elementary school child is absent, please send a written letter of request to the principal of your child's school. You will then receive further information on the program.
