Primary Work Activities

  • Oversees the Health and Physical Education Departments K-12. 
  • Attends all relevant league and conference meetings for athletics to ensure compliance with current regulations for health, PE, and athletics. 
  • Supervise and evaluate the coaching staff and health and physical education teachers.
  • Communicates regularly with health, PE, and coaching staff.
  • Recruits and recommends staff for Athletics, Health and Physical Education
  • Supervises the scheduling and use of athletic facilities for the school district and resolves athletic conflicts regarding field or building use.
  • Participates with the administration involving athletes that have violated school rules, conference rules and game suspensions giving each athlete “Due Process.”
  • Reviews the eligibility requirements of students that involve transfers and extended eligibility.
  • Responsible for administering all interscholastic policies and procedures within the confines of District policies, League procedures, the rules established by NYSPHSAA and regulations established by NYS Education Department.
  • Responsible for development of all interscholastic game schedules and make up contests. 
  • Supervises transportation arrangements for all interscholastic athletic events.
  • Is reasonably visible at athletic events and oversees/schedules proper supervision for home contests.
  • Responsible for making safety decisions concerning weather/temperature, field conditions and transportation.  These decisions are made in consultation with the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds and the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Responsible for review of athletic policies with coaches, parents and athletes.
  • Monitors and evaluates athletics, health and physical education programs and makes recommendations for improvements.  
  • Provides for academic eligibility supervision of students participating in interscholastic sports programs.
  • Works with the administration and student advisors involved in scheduling athletic assemblies and pep rallies.
  • Facilitates the Athletic Advisory Committee and Wall of Fame.
  • Plans agenda and conducts seasonal Parent/Coaches Orientation meetings.
  • Plans agenda and conducts regular coaches meetings that address staffing and budgetary needs. 
  • Coordinates the supervision of the year round after school fitness center.
  • Facilitates the Athletic Awards Night and distributes awards and honors to the students/athletes.
  • Designs a program of staff development (Superintendent Conference Days); facilitates district-wide professional development.
  • Serves as one of the District’s Title IX Compliance Officers.
  • Serves as a member of the Executive Cabinet. 
  • Works collaboratively with the Executive Cabinet to prepare a District budget while overseeing the department budget. 
  • Works closely with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Personnel to resolve any personnel issues within the department. 
  • Assumes other related duties as a member of the Executive Cabinet at the direction of the Superintendent.
