Primary Work Activities

  • Establishes and regularly monitors all busing routes including pick up and drop off locations for safety and efficiency. 
  • Prepares student pick up and drop off times for all students and extracurricular activities.
  • Supervises the service, maintenance, and repair of all school district vehicles.
  • Writes specifications for all new vehicles and equipment in collaboration with the Head Mechanic. 
  • Oversees the training and required driving tests for all drivers.  
  • Regularly observes and evaluates driver’s defensive driving performance in accordance with Vehicle and Traffic Law regulations and all Department of Transportation requirements.
  • Regularly communicates with administrators and drivers of any changes in motor vehicle laws and regulations.
  • Arranges for and assigns drivers for all extracurricular trips, field trips, and athletic events. 
  • Assists in the preparation of State Transportation reports and maps of bus routes.
  • Keeps a daily record of mileage and number of pupils carried and maintains seating/time charts for students and staff when required by the Health Department. 
  • Investigates bus accidents on the scene, prepares reports, and immediately notifies the Superintendent. 
  • Oversees complaints from drivers, parents, students, and others in relation to bus routes, student discipline, and other related matters.
  • Prepares periodic reports which include cost of operating each bus on the basis of expenses for gasoline, oil, grease, anti-freeze, parts, labor wages, storage or rental, and other expenses for reporting and budgeting purposes. 
  • Approves all purchases of parts and materials.
  • Approves and maintains time records of bus drivers, monitors, and bus maintenance for payroll purposes.
  • Serves as a member of the Executive Cabinet. 
  • Attends all relevant regional meetings and professional development and communicates important information back to relevant personnel. 
  • Works collaboratively with the Executive Cabinet to prepare a District budget while overseeing the department budget. 
  • Works closely with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Personnel to resolve any personnel issues within the department. 
  • Assumes other related duties as a member of the Executive Cabinet at the direction of the Superintendent.
