Primary Work Activities

  • Plans and directs the operation of the school lunch program for all schools in the District.
  • Serves as technical advisor to the school administration in the formulation of policies, procedures and plans for the operation of the school lunch program and carries out the established policies.
  • Works with State and Federal agencies to ensure compliance within the department. 
  • Coordinates the ordering, receiving, and storing of foods, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintains an up-to-date inventory of all foods, supplies, and equipment.
  • Compiles bids and recommends the award of the bid to the Board of Education.
  • Plans amount of government commodities to be requisitioned and distributed.
  • Directs the preparation of the school lunch program budget for current and long range expenditures and advises the administration on capital outlay for equipment.
  • Designs and implements cost control procedures and records.
  • Establishes accounting procedures and maintains records necessary for sound financial control.
  • Reviews operating records of each school's food service department.
  • Prepares and analyzes reports relating to school lunch program activities.
  • Consults with the architectural and construction firms on layouts for alteration or construction of school lunch kitchens and dining rooms.
  • Consults with individuals and groups in the school and community and provides/solicits information for continuous improvements of the food service department. 
  • Prepares monthly master menus for lunch programs.
  • Develops standard recipes and portions to be used in the preparation and serving of food.
  • Organizes staffing per building to maximize District resources and improve efficiency.
  • Interviews and recommends placement of school food service personnel.
  • Plans for and directs the training of employees.
  • Administers pertinent personnel policies.
  • Supervises each school’s cafeteria on a regular basis. 
  • Serves as a member of the Executive Cabinet. 
  • Attends all relevant regional meetings and professional development and communicates important information back to relevant personnel. 
  • Works collaboratively with the Executive Cabinet to prepare a District budget while overseeing the department budget. 
  • Works closely with the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Personnel to resolve any personnel issues within the department. 
  • Assumes other related duties as a member of the Executive Cabinet at the direction of the Superintendent.
