A.A. Cole Elementary Maple Syrup Club Returns with Strong Participation

After a year-long hiatus, the Maple Syrup Club at A.A. Cole Elementary School made a successful return this year, offering students a unique, hands-on learning experience rooted in outdoor education and teamwork.
More than 40 students participated in the four-week program, demonstrating strong interest and enthusiasm from both students and staff. Favorable weather conditions throughout the month provided an ideal environment for learning the process of maple syrup production.
During the club, students actively engaged in each step of the process. Participants tapped trees, installed sap collection bags and holders, and learned how to run lines between trees. They also collected sap regularly and explored the full scope of maple syrup production, including optimal sap collection conditions, various collection methods, and the equipment used throughout the process.
In addition to sap collection, students gained experience in boiling sap into syrup, as well as proper bottling and cleaning techniques. Each participant received a personal tap to take home, encouraging continued learning beyond the club.
On the final day, students assisted in removing taps and equipment and were quizzed on their knowledge by Principal Jessica Hill. In recognition of their hard work and dedication, each student received a glass maple leaf bottle of maple syrup. Volunteers were also recognized with bottles of syrup for their support.
The Maple Syrup Club provided students with an opportunity to learn new skills, spend time outdoors, and build connections with peers and staff.
