34 students join Central Square National Honor Society ranks

The packed audience at Paul V. Moore High School’s auditorium cheered and roared for each inductee as family, friends, mentors and more turned out to celebrate this year’s 34 new National Honor Society inductees.

NHS Advisor Melissa Staats, who has been involved with the organization for 10 years, helped lead the ceremony during which current members inducted new ones. Central Square Superintendent Thomas J. Colabufo congratulated the students on their achievement and commitment to the four pillars of scholarship, leadership, character and service.

Before he concluded, Colabufo made sure to recognize Staats, who will retire following the 2024-25 school year, for her continued dedication and efforts which have impacted hundreds of students in both NHS and her classroom as a high school art teacher.

“It has been a wonderful experience working with students who truly want to change the world through their leadership, scholarship, character, and service,” said Staats. “My career keeps me hopeful for the future.”

The National Honor Society remains the leader among organizations and societies to promote recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and service. The NHS at Paul V. Moore High School strives to uphold these four pillars of excellence and choose only those students who exemplify these qualities. Once inducted into a chapter of NHS, they pledge to uphold the major responsibility of representing Paul V. Moore High School and the Central Square School District with integrity and respect for self and community.
