Kira Carinci Returns to Central Square to Fill New Role of Director of Academic Supports and Interventions

On July 14, 2021, Superintendent Thomas Colabufo announced that former Central Square classroom teacher Kira Carinci, has returned to the district to fill the new role of Director of Academic Supports and Interventions. In a letter sent to parents and guardians, Colabufo said:

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are very excited to welcome back former veteran teacher, Kira Carinci, to our District in the new role of Director of Academic Supports and Interventions. Ms. Carinci’s primary focus will be to provide direct support to middle and high school staff, which will assist teachers in developing and implementing academic supports and interventions so all students can be successful. While our teachers did an amazing job throughout the pandemic, addressing learning loss is a major priority for all school districts. The creation of the Director of Academic Supports and Interventions is just one example of the District’s effort to improve student performance and provide our teachers with the resources and support they need to continue to empower all students to excel as citizens in a changing world.

Ms. Carinci was a classroom teacher and then a curriculum consultant for the Central Square Central School District for 19 years prior to transitioning into administration. She gained administrative experience as an assistant principal in the Pulaski Academy & Central School District prior to joining Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga (TST) BOCES as the Coordinator of Professional Learning. The experience that Ms. Carinci has amassed as a longtime teacher, coupled with her administrative experience at TST BOCES where she directly supported administrators and teachers to improve student learning in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and technology, aligns perfectly with our District’s mission and vision. Ms. Carinci used student and teacher data to help districts make data driven decisions, design programming, and better align professional development to the actual needs of the teachers and interests of the students.

The ultimate outcome we are looking to achieve at Central Square is for all students to reach their fullest potential, and we believe Ms. Carinci will play a valuable role in the process. Our District understands the importance of a strong literacy program, and we have been committed to the Oswego County Literacy Initiative (OCLI) that has strengthened our elementary literacy program. Our immediate goal is to strengthen the literacy continuum from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Ms. Carinci’s training and experience in the Oswego County Literacy Initiative will strengthen the students’ transition from elementary to the middle school, and play a key role in their success at high school where reading in the content area is essential to their success.
