Central Square School District Announces New Director of Health, Physical Education & Athletics

On July 12, 2021, Superintendent Thomas Colabufo introduced the district's new Director of Health, Physical Education & Athletics Jamie Grimshaw in a letter that went out to all parents and guardians:

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We would first like to recognize the hard work and dedication Jim Drancsak has provided our District throughout his time as our Director of Health, Physical Education & Athletics. Mr. Drancsak will be officially retired on July 31, 2021, and we thank him for all that he has done for the District as we wish him all the best in his much deserved retirement. Mr. Drancsak greatly enjoyed watching our students grow into academically strong individuals that also excelled in athletics.

We conducted an extensive search to find our next Director of Health, Physical Education & Athletics as we looked for a candidate with athletic director experience, meaningful coaching and teaching experience, building level administrative experience and a passion for working with students. Jamie Grimshaw checked off all of those boxes and more. At our last Board of Education meeting on July 7, our Board of Education members were able to ask Mr. Grimshaw a series of questions, which gave them a solid understanding of the type of administrator and person he is. The Board of Education approved Mr. Grimshaw’s appointment, and as of August 2, 2021, he will officially be our Director of Health, Physical Education & Athletics.

Jamie Grimshaw has been the 7-12 Junior/Senior High School Principal at Oriskany Central School District for the past two years. Prior to his position at Oriskany Central, he served as the Athletic Director at Red Creek for four years, which provided him with valuable administrative experience. He then went on to become the High School Assistant Principal at Red Creek. Before transitioning to an administrator, Mr. Grimshaw coached girls and boys basketball while teaching physical education for 16 years. He was named “Girls Basketball Coach of the Year” twice as he led many teams to success as their coach.

While we are always sad to see a staff member retire, we are also very happy for Jim Drancsak, as he will now have a lot more quality time for his family and grandchildren. We are confident that Jamie Grimshaw will continue to strengthen our health, physical education and athletic departments, as he brings his passion for working with students to Central Square.
