General Guidelines and Department Policies

 

 

1.                   All students need a change of clothes for class.  Clothing must be in compliance with the school dress code.

2.                   Footwear – Athletic sneakers!  No boots, sandals, platform sneakers or slip-ons.

3.                   Do not enter the gym or touch equipment without teacher’s permission. 

4.                   Do not climb on top of bleachers.  Do not attempt to pull the bleachers out by hand.

5.                   No food or beverages in the locker rooms or gym areas.

6.                   A lock and locker will be issued to everyone.  Lock up your valuables!

7.                   Under no circumstances are students to be let into the locker room while classes are in session unless supervised by an administrator, Phys. Ed. teacher or monitor.

8.                   Big lockers are for use during class only!

9.                   Combinations will be given to the owner of the lock only, and locks will be opened for the owner of the lock only.

10.               Students must fulfill the FIT requirement.  Three out of the six marking periods students must take a Fitness class, an Individual sport or activity and a Team sport.

11.               Freshmen must take Fitness in either 1st or 2nd marking period.

12.               Each student can have 3 unprepareds for the year.  If a student reaches a 4th unprepared after school detention will be issued each class until that class is made up.

13.               Being unprepared for class results in a grade zero for participation that day.

14.               Deadline for make-ups for marking periods 1 thru 5 will be 2 weeks after the unit ends.

15.               Deadline of make-ups for 6th marking period will be the last day of actual classes.

16.               Any make-ups after the deadline will not result in a change of grade.

17.               It is recommended that jewelry be removed and locked up before class.  In some units jewelry must be removed for safety considerations.

18.               There is an attendance policy!  A maximum of 6 absences are allowed for the entire year.
On your 7th absence, you will go through an appeals process.  If days are granted back you must make them up.

19.               If you are absent it is your responsibility to find out what material you missed and what make-up work may be done.

20.               Any student wishing to make-up a class must have pre-authorization from the unit teacher in the form of a signed make-up sheet.  They must then have a pre-signed pass from the teacher you are making the class up with.  If you do not have a pass do not come to the gym.

21.               In the case of a long-term medical condition that prohibits participation in physical activity, a doctor’s note is needed.  Written work will be assigned in place of activity. 

22.               No swearing or foul language of any kind, in any situation will be tolerated.  It will result in class removal.

23.               Unsafe, dangerous, disrespectful or belligerent behavior will result with immediate class removal.

24.               All injuries, no matter how small must be reported to the teacher.

25.               School equipment and property shall be respected at all times.

26.               REMEMBER:  YOU NEED 2 CREDITS OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION TO GRADUATE.  Each year of physical education is worth .5 credit.
