Test Dates Announced

 

The College Board and American College Testing have announced their fall 2009 college entrance testing schedule.  The dates and registration deadlines are listed below.  Registration forms for the fall test dates will be available in the Guidance Office in mid August.  Students can also register online at www.collegeboard.com for the SAT and www.actstudent.org for the ACT.

Summer Enrichment Classes

at Oswego BOCES

 

The Oswego County BOCES in Mexico , N.Y. is offering a variety of personal interest summer classes for students in grades 3 to 9.  This year’s program includes courses in arts & crafts, web site design, baking, guitar lessons, Irish dancing and fitness.  The classes will be held during the week of July 6-10 or July 13-17.  The cost for each class is $75.00 plus any needed materials.  Registration can be completed online at http://summertime.oswegoboces.org.  The regular registration deadline is June 15.  Bus

transportation from the high school will be available.  Interested students can pick up a bulletin describing the summer offerings in the Guidance Office or Career Center .

 

Cayuga Offers Summer

“Green” Entrepreneurship Course

 

Cayuga Community College is offering an opportunity for high school students to earn three college credits this summer, while learning about green technology.  As part of an “ESF in the High School” grant partnership, a one week class in green business basics will be taught at a discounted tuition rate.  The course entitled Biology 213 – Green Entrepreneurship, will be offered at the Cayuga campus in Fulton from July 6 to July 10.  The class times are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a one hour lunch break.  Enrolled students will explore and learn about alternative energy, geospatial technologies and environmentally friendly business practices.  There will also be field trips to energy efficient businesses and a wind farm.  Interested students must have successfully completed regents biology in order to be eligible to enroll in the class.  The tuition cost is $164.00.  To register, students should call 255-1743, extension 2217.  Questions about the course can be directed to Christine Waters at 294-8421 or waters@cayuga-cc.edu.

 

Distance Learning to

Offer College Italian

 

The Guidance Office has recently been informed that College Italian will be offered as a distance learning class in the spring semester next year.  Italian 101 is a beginning level class.  Students who enroll in and successfully complete the class, will earn three college credits from Onondaga Community College .  The tuition cost is approximately $150.00.  Interested students should see their counselor before the end of the school year to enroll.

 

Volunteer This Summer

One way students can help others and learn some valuable skills at the same time, is to volunteer time in service to school and community organizations.  Volunteer programs are common in many communities and service learning is an important component to the curriculum in many schools.  One of the objectives of the Central Square School District Strategic Plan is to have all students “voluntarily contribute to community on an ongoing basis.”  To encourage more of our students to volunteer, the Career Center coordinates volunteer service placements by maintaining contact with many local organizations that are in need of volunteer assistance.  Many of the volunteer opportunities are right in our local communities and some are located in the greater Syracuse area.  There are many different types of opportunities for students in grades 8-12 with varying time commitments.  High school students who provide volunteer service can qualify to earn the President’s Volunteer Service Award.  A description of this program is available in the Career Center .

  Career Center

Summer Hours

 

The Career Center will be ending its regular hours with the last day of classes at Paul V. Moore High School on June 12.  During Regents exam week, students can access the Career Center only by appointment with their guidance counselor.

 

There will be no regular hours for the Career Center during the summer.  The Career Center will be available to students, parents and community members by appointment with a guidance counselor.  To access the Career Center during the summer, call the Guidance Office at 668-4264.

 

The Career Center will be open with regularly scheduled hours in the fall.
