Meet The Challenge Outlines

College Credit Options

High School sophomores, juniors and their parents may wish to attend “Meet The Challenge” night on February 10 at 7:00 p.m.  This special program will outline all college credit opportunities offered at Paul V. Moore High School .  Representatives of Syracuse University, SUNY ESF, Onondaga Community College, Cayuga Community College and the Oswego County BOCES will be present, along with high school staff, to explain the requirements and benefits of college study while enrolled in high school.  Advanced Placement, concurrent enrollment and distance learning college credit options will be explained.  New Visions programs in Allied Health and Law and Government will also be reviewed.  Parents and students will be able to speak with the various program representatives, in a tables format in the cafeteria, after an introduction and brief overview in the auditorium.  Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable information prior to planning your 2010-2011 schedule.

Armed Services Test

High school juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery during the midyear exam period on January 27.  The test will be administered in the morning, beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Interested students should check with their guidance counselor for more information.

File FAFSA On The Web

Students who will be attending college in the coming year can apply for financial aid on the Internet.  An online version of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  There is no charge for the online FAFSA and students should receive results 7 to 14 days faster than processing a FAFSA through the mail.  Data entered on the web version of the FAFSA is completely secure.  Federal school codes necessary to complete either version of the FAFSA are also available on this web site.

This will be my last issue as editor of Campus & Career View.  This newsletter was created in 1999 to highlight college and career information and the programs and services of the new Career Center that was included in the last renovation of Paul V. Moore High School .  Having a resource for career planning, I believe, is vital for our students, parents and community members.  It is my hope that the Career Center will continue to thrive in the years ahead and will be updated with advances in technology to better serve our students, staff and community.  Beginning with the second semester, the Career Center will be under the direction of guidance counselor Tim Wales.  Mrs. Debbie O’Mara will continue to staff the Career Center on a daily basis.  As always, the Career Center will be available to assist teachers with classroom projects related to career research.  Students should be encouraged to take advantage of this great resource to investigate opportunities for future education, training and careers.  As I sign off, I would like to thank the English department for helping to introduce our students to the services of the Career Center through the tenth grade career research project.  I would also like to thank Mrs. Debbie O’Mara for her daily efforts in coordinating Career Center activities.  Finally, I want to acknowledge Mrs. Laurel Haller for her skill in formatting Campus & Career View and putting the information contained in the newsletter into print and online for readers to enjoy.  I wish all our readers the best of luck in all your future endeavors.
