Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program

The Central Square Central School District is pleased to announce the expected continuation of the “Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program” for the 2017-2018 school year.  The program is designed for Central Square School District children who will be four years of age on or before December 1, 2017.  Children who are age eligible to attend kindergarten in 2017-2018 are not eligible to participate in UPK.  The UPK program is offered free of charge to randomly selected children; however, transportation is not provided and must be provided by the parent.

The goals of the program are to meet the individual needs of our four-year old children in the areas of social, academic, language, emotional, and physical development.

Depending on the applications received, sessions will be available at Millard Hawk, Brewerton Elementary, A. A. Cole Elementary, and Hastings-Mallory Elementary.  The program will run for 180 days in accordance with the school district calendar.  Your child must maintain an excellent attendance record in order to remain in the program.  There will be a maximum of 18 students in each class taught by a certified teacher and a teaching assistant.

We do offer an integrated program with general education and special needs children that parallels the UPK program.  Your child may also be randomly selected for this program.

If you would like your child to be considered, please complete the attached application.  Applications are also available at all district elementary buildings and the Superintendent’s office at the Education Center.  Applications must be returned to the Superintendent’s office by May 12, 2017.

All children are randomly selected according to the stipulations of the UPK grant. You will be notified if your child has been selected for the program by the end of June 2017.  If your child is selected, registration will be arranged by the individual school.  You will need to provide up-to-date immunizations, proof of residency, and an original birth certificate at that time.  This program is completely dependent on NYS grant funding and therefore, will not be offered if the finalized NYS 2017-2018 budget does not include it.  We look forward to working with you to provide an excellent beginning to your child’s school experience.
