VISITORS TO THE SCHOOLS

1240-R

The Central Square Central School District allows the visitation of all residents of this district, subject to the following procedures:

  1. Each building principal shall establish and maintain a security plan outlining the process of registration and authorization for visits to his/her school. Such plans shall be submitted to the Superintendent of Schools for approval, and thereafter be made available to the principal's office and anyone interested in visiting the school.
  1. All visitors must report to the main office, sign in, and be issued a visitor's permit, which must be displayed at all times. The permit must be returned to the main office and the visitor must sign out at the conclusion of the visit.
  1. Registration shall not be required for functions open to the public, whether or not school-related.
  1. Such visitations shall not be limited to parent conference days or other organized events.
  1. Parents may request a visit to their child's classroom(s) through the building principal. The purpose of the visit will be established at that time. The date and time of the visit shall be mutually agreed upon directly between parent and teacher. The building principal shall be notified, in advance, of the arrangements which have been agreed upon for the visit.
  1. Teachers may request a parent to visit the classroom by directly contacting the parent and establishing a mutually agreed upon date and time. The building principal shall be notified of the visit, in advance.
  1. Unless specifically invited by the building administrator, parental visitation shall be limited to those situations which do not involve the placement or change of placement of a child into, or from, a specific classroom.
  1. Visitations by other than parents shall be arranged directly between the principal and the individuals requesting the visit. The purpose of the visit shall be made clear in order for appropriate arrangements and scheduling to occur.
  1. Parents are encouraged to visit guidance counselors, school nurses, school psychologists and other support personnel, by appointment, in order to discuss any problems or concerns the parent may have regarding the student, whether or not school-related.
  1. Any visitor wishing to inspect school records or interview students on school premises must comply with the applicable Board policies and administrative regulations. In questionable cases, the visitor shall be directed to the superintendent's office to obtain written permission for such a visit.
  1. The principal is authorized to take any action necessary to secure the safety of students and school personnel. Unauthorized visitors shall be requested to leave school premises immediately, and may be subject to arrest and prosecution for trespassing, pursuant to the New York State Penal Law.
  1. Parental visitations shall not involve or be related to any form of evaluation of members of the district's staff.
  1. Individual visitors not immediately known to the school principal will be asked for identification, at the discretion of the principal.
  1. Parents who wish to have the child excused from school or would like to visit their child are required to register at the office at the time the child will be called to the office.
  1. Students will be released to parents and/or authorized individuals only. If a person requests the release of a student, that person’s identity will be verified against a list of names provided by the parent or guardian. If the person is included on the list, the student may be released from attendance. If the person is not included on the list, the student may not be released except in the event of an emergency as determined in the sole discretion of the building principal, or the principal’s designee, provided that the parent or guardian has been contacted and has agreed to such release. The District may presume that either parent of the student has authority to obtain the release of the student unless the District has been provided with as certified copy of a legally binding instrument (such as a court order) which provides evidence to the contrary.
